This season is flying by!
As we get into the season more the standings show some clearly strong teams and some clearly weak teams so ideally my picks get better, but the beauty of Div 2 is it's anybody's game each week so a last place team like GH can beat a division co-leader like PLSC (foreshadowing??).
Game 1 Vantreights over Nanaimo - 2-1 - Hard fought game, would be 3-1 if it was a home game for Vantreights but travel takes its toll and they can only pot 2. Keeps them up near the top of the leader board though.
Game 2 Cermaq over Cowichan - 3-1 - Cermaq gives up its first goal in its first real test after blowing its way through all the cellar dwellars in the division. Still don't have to travel all the way to Victoria though so travel fatigue doesn't have too much of a factor here.
Game 3 Powell River over Sooke - 2-1 - Bad field and travel fatigue (could be the longest trip in the VISL) make this one a lower scoring affair. PR is the stronger team with Sooke's only win coming against GH.
Game 4 PLSC over GH - 5-0 - No foreshadowing. PLSC puts 5 past a struggling GH team. If I could use a Saved by the Bell analogy, so far this year's GH Bayside Tigers are more like the "Saved by the Bell - The College Years" - 1 season and done.
Game 5 Lakehill over Castaways - 4-2 - Lakehill should be the stronger side based on standings alone. Not an exciting game this weekend but these ones have to be played. I'm most excited for the Vantreights - Nanaimo and Cermaq - Cowichan games to really sort out some positions in the standings.

Game 1
Vantreights over Nanaimo - 3-1 - It never seems easy playing Nanaimo, but Treights are solid and I think they'll come out of this with a comfortable 2 goal win.
Game 2
Cermaq over Cowichan - 1-1 - Cermaq looks good so far, I think Cowichan will be up for this though and Cermaq will settle for a draw, 1-1.
Game 3
Powell River over Sooke - 5-1 - Figure the gates will open for Powell River this weekend and they'll have their scoring boots on. They fire 5 past a hapless Sooke team who will fight against relegation...
Game 4
PLSC over GH - 5-0 - Not sure what's up with Gordon Head this year, but they look terrible... PLSC scores early and often, I like the 5-0 scoreline predicted by Soccerball, and I'll go with that as well..
Game 5
Lakehill over Castaways - Only 8 players last week for Castaways, it's too early in the season for that, that is terrible, no excuses... Castaways are a contender to be relegated or fold... Going with Lakehill spanking them 4-1 .

Vantreights v Nanaimo -Nanaimo are fast but very young and lack leadership on the pitch. 3-0 Vantreightswin.
Cermaq v Cowichan - Game of the weekend? Cermaq looking strong but have we played three of the weakest teams? 2-1 win for Cermaq
Powell River v Sooke- 6-0 win for the PR boys. Played them in Cup last year when they were missing key players. If they get their squad out they will be a match for anyone in this Division. Steady start and they will get stronger. In the mix for the top spot.
PLSC v GH - Gordon head looked pretty weak in CR the other week. Yes, only 11 but unless they were missing nine starters they will struggle this year. PLSC 4-0 win
Lakehill v Castaways -If Castaways bring eleven players they will provide a decent game for any team. 2-2 draw

Treights vs Nan 1-1
Should be a good game I hear Nan might be picking up a few solid players. I think it will be a good physical game but a low scoring one.
Dirty Riv vs Cowtown 4-0
CR Seem to be playing with a smaller net and I don't think cowichan will be able to get one past the keeper. (Can't wait for halloween weekend in the dirty riv for our rematch from last year)
PR vs Sooke 3-0
PR finally in the win column and I don't see them letting up anytime soon. Sooke look to be struggling at least so far.
PLSC vs GH
Don't even want to put a score. I have not seen either team play yet but past results would say that PLSC win easily.
good luck to all.

Game 1
Vantreights over Nanaimo - 4-0 - Nanaimo looked terrible last weeek and they will continue the trend
Game 2
Cermaq vs Cowichan - 2-2 Easily the toughest match for CR yet. Should be fun to watch.
Game 3
Sooke over PR - 1-0 - Calling an upset here.
Game 4
PLSC over GH - 3-0 - Gordon Head looks like the early favorites for relegation.
Game 5
Lakehill vs Castaways - 0-0 - Two teams in need of points will battle hard.

Sooke over the Riv 3-1. 90mins of lumber by both sides. Kudos to the man in the middle.

Wow, rough start for Castaways, and now forfeiting in Powell River for the coming weekend... Not looking good, team folding?

I think 20 signed players and a Club House that brings in money. They should check and see if they can pick up some Mid Isle U21 players on the way up. Its really to bad. I always looked forward to the Riv roady back in the hay days and calling sick on monday.

Ya it would have been a great game, and believe me all of our guys want to make the trip, BUT, its Thanksgiving weeekend and we ALL have family and friends coming from all over, and alot of us have families of our own, we begged and pleaded with Powell River to re-schedule, but i guess taking a forfeit game is more important to them than actually earning it. (Losers). And i get that they have to travel aswell, but not on Thanksgiving, it would have been so easy to re-schedule, and we still would have to travel up there. So a BIG screw you to Powell River on not understanding that family and friends ar emore important than travelling up to powell river and playing a meaningless soccer game. Good work boys.

Shotinthedark I agree having to travel or even play on Thanksgiving weekend is a bit of a joke.
I wonder whether the league schedule these long roads trips on big family holiday weekends to get those $1000 fines - Keep growing that bank account boys - great plan for a non-profit group, whats it all going to get spent on? I suggest a VISL Beer Fest - with free beer.
However if the league are not interested in growing their abnormally large bank account even bigger why would they not schedule Campbell River vs Powell River on Thanksgiving weekend - less travel for all.
Cheers.

Future, one of the most ignorant comments I have ever seen - thought you were much smarter than that.
FYI, if one of you 2 guys or anybody from your team would have asked 30 days in advance to cancel/postpone the game - guess what....it would have happened with a click of the mouse no questions asked. Unfortunate that some people refuse to look into the rules and regs that they decide to join up and play with.
Other teams have taken advantage of the rule and applied it to Thanksgiving, weddings, and chess tournaments.....please don't blame somebody else for your lack of planning or organizing.
And sorry for trying to be fiscally responsible and have $ in the bank. If you were at a meeting or listened to anything that any one of the Board members said or read what was on the website at times - it would be quite clear what our long term goals are. While we all enjoy a beverage - we don't submit expenses for Canadians or Granville Island Lagers.
