Castaways vs. Zgoda: another tragedy of a field to be played on... ughh
Braves vs. Hellas: Would probly be an entertaining game to watch.. Or listen too.. i think the hellas got this one tho, 3-0 hellas.
SFFC vs. Cermaq: should be a pretty tight one here, SFFC has shown they are the early contenders, SFFC at home take it 2-1
PL vs Gorge: Should be another tight matchup, but i feel like Gorge should take it in the end, 2-0

2-0 CR over SFFC. First half was sloppy all around, Saanich probably should have scored but CR keeper bailed out his backline. Second half was a different story, CR came out and took the game to Saanich, ended up with a couple of goals to show for it. All around well contested game, looking forward to the rematch in Victoria.

I wish we could have field marshal's at all the games - tough to work out. Unfortunately, we rely on a lot of municipalities and user groups for our field usage - this would be one of the drawbacks as somebody obviously did not do what they were supposed to do. For those that probably don't know; the nets were supposedly locked together at one of the Beckwith fields so a game was not able to get played that was supposed to be. It was originally on Glasgow, but as most have noticed, it is getting worked on by the City. Never thought that I would say this, but I sure wish we had Glasgow. A time waster today for everybody.......

Agreed about the Zgoda V Castaways game very poor from VISL - Even w/o field marshalls the fields should be vetted before a teams waste their afternoon with out much concerned response from VISL.
Beckwith was just a pile of different sized nets in the bushes with so much undergrowth it would have taken someone with a weed wacker a good 30 minutes to cut them out. Ontop of that 1 of the full size net's crossbar was completely bent and un-useable.

Wow, that might be the most interesting comment I have seen in a while. You want one of the League volunteers to go out and inspect all the fields every week to make sure they are going to be ok for all the League games? So you want somebody from Vic to go to Powell River every weekend, and to Comox on the way of course, and every other field in between. Things (and by that I mean your dues) are going to get expensive with silly demands. I think what is most bothersome about your ridiculous post is that several people actually tried to get things worked out after you originally emailed in at 2:01 pm (14 minutes before kickoff) Besides your Score Recorder trying to come up with something, I know I called the ref Scheduler and tried to figure out what was up. We even tried to call a local guy in the area to see if he had a key to unlock what we were originally told that the nets were just locked together. So while the situation was obviously a weird one - your take of "with out much concerned response from VISL" is pretty ignorant. We have used Beckwith for many years, has not been an issue before...... Hope you at least had a beer afterwards.

I might be missing something, but is it not the home team's responsibility to provide a field? I understand the league assists the independents, and I'm assuming this was Zgoda's home game, but if this happened with a larger club I feel like the home team would be held accountable.

Bit of a double standard there in a way - you are right. Teams that are part of Clubs that have their own field and not part of a larger user group are saying their field is playable and are responsible for their own field. (lights included) That is why teams that have their own fields can dictate when they want their home games, whereas independents are at the mercy of what field we can get them. So there is pros and cons to it. We get fields for independents - like Glasgow, Central, Heywood etc. And they pay a little more in their registration dues. (stress little as the cost of fields is getting higher and higher) We also ask Clubs for fields whenever we can and whenever they can accommodate.......and some Club teams with a field even try to help by getting the away game moved to their own park via mutual consent.
And yes, Beckwith is not a home field by Zgoda or Castaways.

Thanks for clarification; I didn't like that the pitchforks seemed to be pointed at the league, but I suppose in this case it was - unfortunately - warranted. But s**t happens and mistakes are made; c'est la vie.
Spongebob, if memory serves, Div.3 A & B will be play every team twice, then be split into top 4 & bottom 4. The teams in the top 4 will play the other teams again, and same with the teams on the bottom. Not ideal, but a decent compromise with so many teams dropping out last minute.

I disagree about the pitchforks. I am all good with taking some stick about something when the collective we screw up or when I have made an error in whatever - but sorry, being a Marshall at a field or "vetting" a field that we have used in the past - not happening. The same would go for Topaz or Glasgow Park. You may get there and the field may not be playable or closed......that is it and that is what we get for independents. Those Managers may need to get to the field earlier .......? Or, if this turns into a regular occurrence - we start asking independents to supply a field....? I'm hoping this is under the early season 1 of's that don't continue to happen.
And yes Sponge, you get more games as we have done in the past - Spurs has nailed that part of it exactly. It doesn't usually happen in Div 3, but the beginning of this year was pretty odd with several teams dropping out last minute.

How much extra does the VISL charge the teams that don't supply their own fields?
