The VISL All-stars are heading to Surrey to face FVSL teams on Sat Jan 7/2017. Happy to announce that coaches have been selected. They will have teams selected by Dec 15/2016. As a travel year, there will be 2 teams - A Div 1 team and a Masters team. Next year the festivities are back on the Island so we have Div 2, 3, 4, & U21 involved as well. A Cowichan flavor this year coaching wise as Glen Martin will lead the (defending Champion) top flight Division 1 squad. Leading the #Masters (who are the 2 time defending champs)is rookie coach Kevin James of Cowichan 49ers FC Masters A. We look forward to the weekend of rewarding the players who have done exceptionally well over the year. This is all possible because of our great sponsors like Moreno of TeamSales, John Leier of Soccerworld, Brent Dobbie of Heineken, CVSTours with Fraser Sim of BMT. Will be a good roady !! Coaches have almost free reign to select who they want. We want to have the best team represent. It is nice to have a decent representation of the division - hopefully not more than 5 Cowichan players per team.......??!! (lol) I'm sure they will solicit opinion from some coaches. Suggestions for them are also welcome on this page (Bulletin Board off TeamPages website), and of course every other piece of social media out there. Our Facebook - www.facebook.com/Vancouver-Island-Soccer-League-179161668818253/Our twitter - @vislinfo or @vincenzo25 TSN or Sportsnet. If you are not a coach - and I cannot bust you for cheating or collusion - the closest person to select a team will receive something.....not sure what yet - will be a League sanctioned Umbro game ball. Probably some Heineken / Molson promotional product to be determined, and perhaps a beverage at some point from myself. This contest will end November 14. This is a lot of fun for the people involved - is even more fun if we can be fortunate enough to defeat the Fraser Valley teams who are very strong and always have an excellent representation of all stars.

Any reason why Div 2-4 and U21 don't still have All-Star games? Seems like it'd still be a fun event and doesn't really require Div 1?

It definitely does not require me to do it.......especially as I cannot. But it would need somebody from the Board to step up and want to invest the extra time, energy, commitment, and pounding of the pavement to arrange for $ sponsorship's for the day. A few of the Board members make the road trip to the Mainland as well...... Having said that, there is nothing stopping whomever to organize a game vs eachother. Like usual, it is getting people to step up and do the dirty work - not just enjoying the end result.
I know I have enjoyed the process since inception and how it has evolved over the past 13 years or so......but that is me and obviously not all are of the same thought. Believe it or not, over the years and its growth - not even the entire VISL Board is able to help out or support the occasion itself or the preliminary work.,....everybody has busy lives and value different things. I will say this; ( and I may have said it once or twice in the past 5 years ) would love for a person from the community to step up and take care of the Promotions and Marketing aspect aspect of the VISL. Pretty sure that once they are involved, this could be part of their "job duties" and they could run with it and take it to the next level. So many more things could be done - just takes time and energy - which seems to be a tough thing to come by these days....for myself with 2 kids and tons of other people who are involved with their families or team or club -------- or that damn thing called employment!

Makes total sense. Damn "real life" getting in people's way! I hear that loud and clear.
For some of the lower divisions, maybe even just a game itself (without marketing or fanfare) might be something the teams themselves could set up, at least until it's able to hit the next level with marketing and outside help.

Unfortunately, because of weather on the Mainland - this years all-star games have been cancelled. The only positive - we are still defending champs !
