Maybe taking a 3-0 loss n a fine is better than going up there n getting double digits put up on ya on a thanksgiving weekend.

Don't be surprised if the fines go up next summer or a new fine gets added to the list. $500 fine for forfeiting games if you have to cross the Chemainus river or $500 for forfeiting games against title contenders. Didn't Bays Div 1 two seasons ago bail on an Hallooween night game in Duncan. In youth the U18 Bays gold boys team bailed on the island invitational in Comox this past May. Hmm is something trending (in the wrong direction for the VISL)? If this keeps up Div1 will have to act fast & I am sure the Bays power brokers will lose some riches.

Keep in mind that a forfeit in Nanaimo and south is only 250$.
Being the Thanksgiving long weekend, Bays may not have had the numbers and the Mariners may not have been willing to move the date (could have something to do with wanting VIU players for every game. Make up games could be during exam times when they aren't available)

Is a very tricky subject - and a very tough one where the balance to everybody being happy is difficult. All I do know is that there are rules in place and processes in place to make adjustments and prevent all the unfortunate fines and forfeiting etc. Having been on a team and involved myself, I also know that fines suck - but is a good deterrent and helps when making decisions sometimes. In a perfect world, there are no fines - but I think we can all agree that having the fine system in place ensures that everybody is accountable at least. I think most will agree that it is applied evenly across the League to avoid the perception of preferential treatment. We hope to have a freeze on any fine increases.......although OPP brings up an interesting viewpoint ! (just kidding, he is a great s**t disturber though)

Perfect Thanks Div 1, now we have in writing "We hope to have a freeze on any fine increases." I will save that to the Div 1 archives!

While this site is not gospel for anything; other than you are sure to get a lot of guys trash talking and one should perhaps have a breathalyzer attached to computer on occasion, I am confident there will not be any new fines this year. Why does there have to be new ones? Plenty of the old ones to go around.....
