People care this much? I get more upset about mates drinking my beer after the game than anything a ref does.

realcordova. that is fair, I wasn't trying to blow smoke my bad. the reff himself was a head scratcher. IMO both sides were deserving of 1pk, the other both suspect calls. Juniors was a shot in the box off SPL hand (ball to hand). SPL player in the box, junior defender got body position on him and knocked him over. solid deffending and should not have been called. As for the dissallowed goals both very similar. free kicks taken quickly that the reff took back stating he had to blow his whistle first. both should have been allowed in my opinion. Aside from the reff, it was an even played game. both goaltenders made big saves. Game two will be a good one!

also I noted the reff was CONSISTENT with his calls. They did not favour one size over the other.

For the record, what I did see seemed very exciting......and by no means was I trying to say that SPL did not play well - is probably some of the best soccer I've seen them play (not that I've seen them play 43 times)......am confused as to why a team that looked like that is where they are in the standings. (No, I'm not, considering work, injuries, commitment etc ) And I think it is fair to say that I tow the company line - and am quick to defend officials as they are essentially glorified volunteers themselves.....but I am also the first to say that Zgoda kept their cool very well considering what happened out there on the day. I do not think they played as well as I have seen them on other weekends - so that only magnified things imo. That is probably the most you will get out of me, but speaks volumes in regards to the rest of the posts I have made on this forum.

Okay okay, here is one zgodians perspective. So, take this with a grain of salt...
SPL played well. I too am surprised they can't seem to find more points.
Personal opinion was the ref was terrifying consistent. I wish to not have him again. I'm not a fan when refs get involved as much as he did. Not just with making calls, but the constant slowly of play to chat with everyone about every call. I like explanations, but it was getting silly. I'm pretty sure we all know that hitting someones foot is obviously wrong.. and yes we know not to do it again. But, I really dislike when a ref starts to bicker and tries to show dominance. When our player says this is not fun anymore and I'd rather not play (out of frustration from the calls) that is not an invitation for the ref to offer him a red card. Luckily a player intervened to stop him from escalating the situation. I would have preferred him to just ignore the statement and get back into position. Or ask if he wants to sub... why a red? However, I do get it is one of the harder sports to ref. You are by yourself with 22 Div 4 men complaining about nearly everything. And even with the correct positioning you won't be able to see everything
The difference in the two quick free kicks that resulted in disallowed goals was that SPL's was after the ref indicated the kick was for Zgoda and then corrected it after the Zgoda players had ran up the field. I don't know what the official rule is regarding this. But, I can tell you this is not the first time a ref has done this to us. The Zgoda free kick was called back because they didn't take it fast enough and then the ref deemed he needed to blow his whistle. I know if you ask for 10 then you must wait for a whistle, but I hadn't heard of a reasonable time that the ball must be kicked. Again, I'm not looking the rule up. Hopefully somebody here knows.
I didn't see anything wrong with the penalty kicks received by Zgoda. The first one our striker got his foot kicked (instead of the ball) and fell. By the way, great save by the keeper on this one. And the second the defender went down sliding with his hands away from his body.
Again this is not meant to take anything away from SPL. They did play well. And we did both have the same conditions.
I look forward to the rematch. And hopefully we can step up our game for them.
Oddly enough the field was in relatively good shape. I remember that field being terrible last year with a mud pit along one side.
Also, I'm glad we don't put money down on the games since I'm pretty sure none of my predictions were right. Maybe next week I'll get one.

Div 1 you think you have problems with not so appreciated officials. Check out this story. The league president's name says it all. ""I'm not having a team walking off. I'm going to make sure that somebody pays for this," league president Charlie Browne said." Maybe the said league could adopt the VISL fine structure as well. www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/34764539

LOL, so glad I was not named Charlie with my last name being Brown - hard to take serious. Regarding that game though - I would support the forfeiture and decision from the League. Club A/R's are used all the time......their view might be just a little bit different if it was a neutral A/R - so I understand where the ref is coming from.
You know what - going to email them our fine structure and see what they think. Can go a long ways in funding the Cadillacs (or volvo's) all our Board members have.....??
