As part of the Jackson Cup 100th Year Anniversary we are attempting to name a team that will consist of oustanding players who have competed in the Jackson Cup competition over the last 50 years. A number of members of the soccer community that span that time frame are working on putting their lists together and I thought that it would be prudent to open this up to all forum readers. You can list your team, name individuals or if you prefer you can send your selections to me directly at kjeldb@gmail.com. This is not an easy task and it is very subjective but it surely should stimulate some great soccer conversation.

If you have the time it would be interesting if you could publish some of the lists/nominations you receive (minus the 'author').

Man o man, a very tricky subjective thing to attempt to do, but conversation stimulating to say the least. Has sure got me to thinking over the past 20 or so years. Like Garland, I only go back to the early 90's for the most part. I have no doubt that guys like George Pakos, Frank Woods, Ian Bridge, Grant Darley etc....etc....and so many others would be on this list had I seen them more during their primes. You have a conversation with Frank or other guys that have been around since there was only 1 color of boot to choose from - is a bit overwhelming and I could listen all day. Regardless, my stab at it if I was making the lineup and signing paychecks:
GK - Shel Brodsgaard / Scott MacQuillian Backs - Rob Veenhof, Tyler Hughes, Nando Dunic, Paul Vandenboomen Mid - Brett Pence, Will Moore, Greg Fidd**k, Rick Jasken Up top - Nick Gilbert, Ross Simpson
Coach - Dante Zanatta Manager - Bill Murphy Sponsor - Strathcona Hotel
Ref - Matt Dirkie A/R - Andy Foster, Simon Fearn
Supersubs - Ken Andrews, Larry Stefanek, John Soares
Field - Cowichan Grass Fans - Vantreights Uni's - Blue & White Ball - Umbro Neo2
No road blocks after the clubhouse !

Glad to see Pencil and Simmy gettin' some lower island love (Veenhof too). I battled them both on the mud bogs at Timberlane Park under the dim lights as a 16-18 yr old. Pencil was (and is) an absolute specimen. He could teach some of our current players about true grit combined with top notch execution of the basics. Simmy scored for fun...and apparently liked to have fun. Trying to bring Villa back to the promised land as a tribute to those who came before us. Cheers boys!

Yah, was hoping to see Pence still involved and maybe playing - have not seen too many guys like him been produced. And, as far as PR boys go, I probably should have included Fergy in there too - but at some point the line needs to be drawn......another beauty though!

Some of those boys were playing 035's last season as you may recall - Tony Leach, Cam Miller, Ross Simpson, among others. However, despite making a good BC run in which I believe they ran into a powerhouse and lost with a limited squad, they are no longer a part of the VISL. A bit of a shame as I'm not too far away from that 035 bracket myself. Can you shed light?
