As discussed at the opening meeting of the year, we are staggering the All-star games and we plan to have them local every 2 years. For this soccer year, they will be at the Fraser Valley. (The 2 Fraser Valley teams came here last year) Specifically, they will be Saturday Jan 10/2015, at Willoughby Park. The Masters select team will be at 12:30 pm. (Selected by JJ Atterbury & Moreno Stefani) The Open (Div 1) select team will be at 2:30 pm. (Selected by Steph Steiner & Rich Fast) Coaches for both teams are going through rosters and selecting / notifying guys as we speak. We hope guys are able to spend the day away, have a decent time, and more importantly - beat the Fraser Valley teams which will be very strong at home. The League puts a considerable amount of time/resources into this venture - not only for our League members, but also in an attempt to do something extra for Provincial soccer. This year we have 4 sponsors that are stepping up and helping with this roadtrip. As per usual, 2 of Gold Sponsors are leading the way, another stepping up a bit more, and a newbee. -Team Sales is putting together a package for the players that are able to make the trip over - it is a thankyou for spending the day and a congratulations for being selected. -Spankit sports are putting together a new kit for the Open Mens squad as we speak. -1550's Pub Style Restaurant is helping out with some of the goods necessary to ensure the bus ride is acceptable and help guys stay hydrated. -And new to the Year - requesting to show support for this project - is BMT Group Services Ltd. They specifically deal with Commercial Vehicle & Motorhome Mechanical, Collision and Refinishing. Check them out at: bmtgroup.ca/They have also arranged for a coach bus on the day - both teams are traveling together. Team lists to be published soon.

Any chance for Div 3a vs. Div 3b, this year?

Not this year - and not really in the plan for next year. Next year would probably be something along the line of Div 3 vs Div 2.

That's a big let down for a lot of players in the league.
I know div one is the be all and end all to the visl. But how hard would getting a couple refs and letting other divs have a few games over the break be to celebrate the hard work that the best players in lesser divs put into their years?
I think amongst the managers of the divs it wouldn't be to hard to organize 3-4 A vs B games.
Do the dues that visl players payed this year get discounted since they are not covering the usual cost of participating in the all-star game?

I sense that you might be frustrated, and for that I apologize. Div 1 is our flagship division, as it is in every other League I have ever come across - but that does not stop us doing things in all divisions. There was a call for a Masters game - it is happening there too. If you would like to spend some more of your time volunteering for something else other than what you already do - please drop me an email, we definitely need more people on board to do things that you say are not difficult. Having said that, you can always do what you have suggested and get something going on your own. It would be great to reward everybody for their hard work,,,,it would take 3 or 4 teams per division to do that, and I personally think it loses what it is intended to do. Unfortunately, not everybody is an all-star or selected to do something. As far as the dues being subsidized - I will ensure you get triple back for what you or anybody else paid to be part of the "mandatory" all-star component. The all-star games are an extra thank-you to some people and it is not covered by any members putting in extra $. It has typically been paid for by sponsors who like to direct their $ to something in specific. If your team makes it to the top of your division this year, you may be selected to run a team next year....or even play for it. Hope that helps a bit....

Yup, it takes nothing to put on a game. Had a picture to go with this, but will not load. Recommend going to VISL's Facebook Page and have a look at the pictures from the last All Star Games.

How many players are being selected to go and since this is a VISL/FVSL Allstar match are selections limited to Div 1 only?

20 per team.......might even get trimmed to 18. Yes, will be full of div 1 guys....pretty sure there was no Div 2 guys selected. I think the Masters asked 1 or 2 guys on B, but I believe they are not available......

Just confirmed another sponsor for the bus ride - they will only be sponsoring the bus ride home. Brent Dobbie of Molsons Coors has stepped up and will be an operating partner for the trip home. This is exciting for us as a group and we look forward to the partnership all the way home! This is the 2nd time that we have been able to have Molsons onboard - good times!
